Germany presents winter aid package to Ukraine, supporting 2.6 million people
Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze has presented a winter aid package worth 90 million euros ($94 million) to Ukraine in Kyiv.
The funds will be used to purchase 26 mobile boiler units, 24 transformers, four hybrid generators, and 33 pellet-fired boilers, all of which will provide 2.6 million Ukrainians with electricity and heating, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The package will also fund school meals and the operation of bakeries in frontline areas of Ukraine, benefiting 130,000 people.
Schulze personally inspected one of the mobile heat and power stations that will be installed in the Mykolaiv region. It will provide approximately 70 apartment buildings housing 13,000 residents, as well as hospitals, schools, and kindergartens with electricity.
Together with representatives of Ukrenergo state-owned electricity transmission system operator, Schulze visited an electrical substation in northern Kyiv. According to the company, about half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed due to Russian shelling. In the presence of Schulze, the Ukrainian side was handed lifting platforms for the repair of power lines.
According to Ukrenergo representatives, these platforms will enable quick restoration of damaged infrastructure.
Germany is the second-biggest arms supplier to Ukraine after the US.
To date, it has allocated approximately 28 billion euros ($30 billion) for military support and committed to future expenditures. According to the 2025 budget agreement, Germany will provide 4 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in military support to Ukraine, which is half of what was allocated in 2024. Russian authorities have repeatedly asserted that the influx of weapons to Ukraine will not diminish Russia's resolve or change the course of the special military operation.
