Global spotlight on Aliyev’s Chernobbio speech: Peace treaty and border delimitation

07 September 2024 12:33

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made significant remarks at the International Chernobbio Forum in Italy during the session titled “Azerbaijan's Role in New Geopolitical Environment.”

His address, particularly highlighting the peace process with Armenia and the ongoing border delimitation efforts, has garnered substantial attention from international media, Caliber.Az reports.

The Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets indicated that Aliyev reported nearly 80 per cent of the points in the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia have already been agreed upon. The article quoted Aliyev’s optimism about achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus, attributing this progress to recent advancements in the negotiation process between Baku and Yerevan.

TASS also covered the topic with an article titled “Aliyev Says Nearly 80% of the Peace Treaty with Yerevan Has Been Agreed Upon.” This piece emphasized key statements from President Aliyev concerning the ongoing efforts to delineate and demarcate the border with Armenia, underscoring the significance of these developments.

Vedomosti, Izvestia, Gazeta.Ru, NEWS.Ru, Vestnik Kavkaza, Regnum, etc. widely covered Ilham Aliyev's statements on the negotiations on the peace agreement with Armenia and border delimitation.

In addition to Russian press coverage, prominent Turkish, Ukrainian, Georgian, Belarusian, and Arab media also featured President Aliyev’s remarks prominently.

Turkish news agency Anadolu in its piece notes the historical context of the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani lands for almost 30 years and their liberation during the Second Karabakh War. The agency emphasized Aliyev’s belief that peace in the South Caucasus is within reach, as demonstrated by recent progress in the negotiations.

“We can achieve peace in the South Caucasus. It is achievable. This is evidenced by recent developments on the negotiation track between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the agency quoted President Ilham Aliyev as saying.

Turkish publications such as Cumhuriyet, Star, Yenisafak, Turkiyetoday, TRT Haber, and Haberler also extensively covered the Azerbaijani president’s statements at the Chernobbio Forum. They focused on the discussions surrounding the peace agreement with Armenia and the broader implications for regional stability.

Overall, President Aliyev’s comments at the forum have sparked widespread international interest, reflecting the global stakes involved in the peace process and border negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
