Google DeepMind unveils its most powerful AI product to date
Google DeepMind has unveiled its highly anticipated collection of AI chatbots, named Gemini, to enter into competition with OpenAI's GPT series.
As per Google's statement, Gemini Ultra, the most extensive and advanced model in the lineup, surpasses the capabilities of OpenAI's leading model, GPT-4, across various tasks such as text-based, image-based, coding, and reasoning assignments, the Time magazine reported.
The availability of Gemini Ultra is slated for early next year through a novel AI chat feature called Bard Advanced. The model is presently in the refinement stage and is undergoing rigorous trust and safety evaluations, including external red-teaming by trusted parties, as indicated in the announcement.
Additionally, Google DeepMind has introduced Gemini Pro, accessible to the public through Google's Bard chat interface, and the more compact Gemini Nano, designed to operate on Google's Pixel 8 Pro smartphone. All three models exhibit the capability to process text, images, audio, and video, generating outputs in both text and image formats.
In the announcement, Google DeepMind stated that it conducted a comparative analysis of Gemini Ultra against a selection of rival models—such as OpenAI’s GPT-4, Anthropic’s Claude 2, Inflection’s Inflection-2, Meta’s Llama 2, and xAI’s Grok 1—revealing the superior performance of the large language model in assessments covering professional and academic multiple choice questions and Python coding.
