Google fined $91,000 in Russia over banned content

A Moscow court has fined Google LLC 7.6 million roubles ($91,200) for failing to remove content banned in Russia, the Tagansky District Court said on August 12.

The company was found guilty under two administrative cases concerning the failure of website and information-resource operators to remove prohibited information or internet pages, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Russian courts have repeatedly fined Google over its refusal to remove banned content from its services, failure to localise the personal data of Russian users and other violations.

Since late 2021, Google has been hit with two turnover-based fines in Russia totalling more than 29 billion roubles ($348 million). Some of the funds have been recovered by Russia’s Federal Bailiffs Service.

Google LLC’s outstanding debt in Russia exceeds 20 billion roubles ($240 million), according to the country’s database of enforcement proceedings.
