Greece constructs anti-tank ditches along border with Türkiye
13 June 2022 16:36
Greece plans to "close" the land border with Türkiye with an anti-tank ditch network.
Active work involving a large number of construction equipment continues in the area of the border river Meric, Turkish Anadolu Agency reports.
Euronews, a Greek news portal, has published images from the border construction site.
According to the source, the project to build anti-tank ditches along the Turkish border was agreed upon in 2010. The work has been accelerated in light of rising tensions between Türkiye and Greece.
According to Greek media, the work will be completed within a few months and is intended to prevent a Turkish armoured troop offensive.
The moat will be 135 km long, 32 metres wide, and 7 metres deep.
