Greek prime minister cancels Davos trip, heads to Brussels
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has canceled his planned visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos due to severe storms affecting Greece and will instead travel to Brussels on January 22 for an informal meeting of European Union leaders.
On the morning of January 22, Mitsotakis is expected to chair a government meeting focused on the ongoing outbreak of sheep and goat pox, a highly contagious animal disease that has forced the culling of more than 470,000 animals nationwide. Although the disease poses no risk to humans, it has dealt a significant blow to Greece’s livestock farming sector, Caliber.Az reports per Greek media.
Mitsotakis had originally been scheduled to attend the Davos forum on January 21 but postponed the trip as authorities monitored the evolving weather conditions before ultimately canceling it.
Later in the day, the prime minister will travel to Brussels, where EU leaders will hold discussions on recent developments in transatlantic relations, their potential impact on the European Union, and coordination on the way forward.
