Guadeloupe FM: Baku unites peoples enslaved by France across Caribbean to Pacific

17 July 2024 10:58

Guadeloupe's Foreign Minister Mickael Forrest underscored the profound global solidarity catalyzed in Baku during the inaugural congress of movements advocating independence from French neo-colonialism.

Speaking at the event reported by Caliber.Az, Forrest articulated the imperative of addressing complex global challenges to ensure that all peoples, regardless of their size or origin, can freely pursue their paths.

Forrest highlighted France's internal struggles with terrorism, political instability, migration issues, and poverty, framing these as broader challenges that must be confronted collectively.

He emphasized that while the French people are not seen as adversaries, it is crucial to consolidate platforms and unite the Caribbean and Pacific nations enslaved by French policies, empowering them to claim their rightful place in the global community.

Expressing gratitude to Azerbaijan for facilitating an environment conducive to democratic dialogue, Forrest emphasized the congress's role in attracting global attention over its two-day duration.

The inaugural congress of leaders from over 15 political parties and movements advocating for the independence of Corsica, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Caribbean, and the Antilles, regions historically impacted by French colonialism, commenced in Baku on July 17.

The event is organized by the People's Association for the Liberation of Guadeloupe and supported by the Baku Initiative Group.
