Helicopter with eight onboard goes missing in Indonesia’s South Borneo

A helicopter carrying eight people—two crew members and six passengers—has gone missing in Indonesia’s South Borneo province, prompting an ongoing search operation, local rescue authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred near the Mantewe area of South Borneo, according to I Putu Sudayana, head of the regional disaster mitigation agency, Reuters reports.
“The helicopter was missing in the area of Mantewe, South Borneo province,” Sudayana said.
Authorities have mobilized both the disaster mitigation agency and police forces to coordinate search and rescue efforts in the challenging terrain. Details about the helicopter’s mission or the identities of those on board have not yet been released.
