Hungarian outgoing FM rejects accusations of serving Kremlin interests
23 April 2026 20:47
Hungarian outgoing Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has said that he has never served Russia’s interests.
According to an interview with Telex, he made the remarks in response to a question about whether his work could be considered treason.
Szijjártó said he had spent 11 years working to build “normal, pragmatic relations with Russia,” adding that Hungary benefited from access to cheap Russian energy supplies.
The minister also said he finds it offensive to be labelled a pro-Russian agent, insisting that he has “never served Russian interests.”
“Accusing someone of treason is a very serious matter,” Szijjártó said.
