Hungarian PM confident US–Russia talks can succeed despite European resistance
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed confidence that negotiations between Russia and the United States over the conflict in Ukraine could achieve a peaceful outcome, despite potential opposition from European countries.
Speaking in an interview with TV2, Orbán said: “It is entirely possible that US–Russia talks will conclude successfully, even in the face of European resistance.”
He added that, with the involvement of the Ukrainian side, a ceasefire could be achieved, and in the longer term, a more lasting peace. Orban emphasised that one could be confident of such an outcome.
Earlier, Orban stated that the majority of European Union (EU) countries are moving “towards war.” Commenting on the results of the EU leaders’ meeting, he noted that, apart from Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, the participants had decided to provide Kyiv with a zero-interest loan of €90 billion to continue financing military operations against Russia.
“Not a single cent of our taxpayers’ money will go towards this reckless military loan,” he stressed.
