Hungarian PM reiterates strong opposition to EU funding for Ukraine
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that Hungary opposes EU funding of the military conflict in Ukraine, believing it amounts to the plundering of the European continent.
Orbán made these remarks during a speech in Madrid at a meeting of leaders from right-wing conservative parties who have formed the European Parliament faction "Patriots for Europe", Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He believes that in recent years, the so-called progressive global elite has simply been looting Europe, and that the actions of Brussels are leading to the collapse of the European economy.
"Our money is being spent on a hopeless war in Ukraine, while Europe has been overtaken by migrants," Orbán said, reminding that he had warned about the dangers of illegal immigration a decade ago.
"Hungary wasn't believed, but now it's time to find new conspiracy theories, because all the old ones have been confirmed," the prime minister joked, causing the audience to laugh.
He assured that his government would continue fighting against Brussels' current policies, prevent illegal migrants from entering the country, and protect traditional moral and ethical values.
"We banned transgender propaganda at schools in Hungary, made all government agencies protect Christian culture, and we believe that a woman is a mother and a man is a father," Orbán emphasised.
He noted that the globalist elite hates Hungary for this. "Brussels bureaucrats, Democrats in the US, and the network of [Hungarian-American financier George] Soros have declared a hunt on us," the prime minister remarked.
Nonetheless, he hopes that the principles Hungary upholds will become the mainstream of global politics, and that right-wing conservative parties will come to power in European countries. The Hungarian prime minister also expressed hope that the return of Republican Donald Trump to the US presidency would help achieve this.
"Trump has just begun, and he will succeed," Orbán said, noting that he is considered one of Trump's key European allies.
Orbán wished success to the host of the meeting, Santiago Abascal, leader of the Spanish Vox party, likening him to a fearless matador ascending to the heights of power.
Other participants at the meeting in Madrid also discussed the need for further consolidation of conservative forces in Europe, expressing confidence that Trump's return to the White House would help achieve this goal.
The "Patriots for Europe" faction was formed following the 2024 European Parliament elections. It includes 84 members, representing 14 parties from 12 countries. The faction elected Jordan Bardella, leader of the French National Rally party as its president.
