Hydrogen filling station network expands
By 2026, 250 new hydrogen filling stations are to be built in Germany, Austria and Denmark.
A joint venture with Jet wants to make hydrogen the leading energy carrier for emission-free mobility, German-based automobile magazine Autobild news journal reports.
The mineral oil company Philipps 66, known in Germany for its Jet brand, has concluded a joint venture with the hydrogen supplier H2 Energy Europe. It is intended to reconcile filling station know-how and expertise on the subject of hydrogen.
Together, the companies want to set up a network with around 250 hydrogen filling stations in Germany, Austria and Denmark by 2026. The interests along the hydrogen value chain should be coordinated and a sustainable ecosystem created.
Jet's goal is ambitious, but the customer base is still small
The new company wants to identify locations and build hydrogen filling stations for cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles. The filling stations are to be supplied exclusively with green hydrogen.
The long-term goal of the joint venture: Hydrogen should become the leading energy source for emission-free mobility. However, with the Hyundai Nexo, Toyota Mirai and future Opel Vivaro-e Hydrogen, there are still only a few hydrogen vehicles on the market.
