German tourist survives 12 days lost in Australian wilderness
Carolina Wilga, a 26-year-old tourist from Germany who went missing in Western Australia 12 days ago, was found alive on July 11 near the Karroun Hill Nature Reserve, about 310 km northeast of Perth.
She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in stable condition. Media reports say that Carolina has signs of injury on her body and was heavily bitten by mosquitoes, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Based on available information, Carolina Wilga was travelling in a Mitsubishi Delica van. In a remote area, she lost control of the vehicle, which became damaged and got stuck. She spent a day inside the van but then panicked, deciding that no one would find her, and set out on foot hoping to encounter someone. With minimal food and water supplies, she walked for 11 days and nights.
Meanwhile, her relatives, unable to reach her, contacted Australian authorities. A search operation was launched, and her van was found.
Carolina herself was later encountered by a passerby who called rescuers.
The Australian police, in connection with this incident, recommend that in similar situations people should not leave their vehicles but wait for rescuers to arrive.
