IDF strikes Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recently attacked several Hezbollah terrorists in the Sidon area of southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army’s press service on Telegram provided no further details, Caliber.Az reports.
Israel has intensified airstrikes across southern and northeastern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and weapons depots as a deadline nears for enforcing a US‑brokered ceasefire and disarmament agreement reached in November 2024.
These strikes aim to disrupt Hezbollah’s military capabilities while Lebanese, US, French, and Saudi officials work on a disarmament roadmap.
Lebanon’s government is nearing completion of removing Hezbollah fighters’ arms south of the Litani River under the ceasefire terms, but both sides continue to accuse each other of violations, with continued Israeli strikes raising regional tensions.
Diplomats from Western and Arab states recently toured the Lebanon‑Israel border to observe disarmament efforts, underscoring international pressure on Lebanon to enforce the ceasefire even as Israeli strikes—some resulting in civilian harm—persist.
Parallel negotiations in Paris involving France, Saudi Arabia, and the US seek to solidify mechanisms for preventing further escalation and support Lebanon’s military role in controlling Hezbollah’s armaments.
