IFRC sends humanitarian aid convoy from Türkiye to Iran
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (İFRC) has dispatched humanitarian aid from Türkiye to Iran as conditions in the country continue to deteriorate.
The IFRC said humanitarian needs in Iran remain extremely high, with a spokesperson, Scott Craig, noting before the departure of a convoy from the outskirts of Ankara that the situation was “desperate.” He also said that, even if circumstances change, humanitarian needs are expected to remain critical for an extended period. He pointed to significant damage to the healthcare system, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The organisation also highlighted damage to key infrastructure, warning that this was contributing to worsening psychological conditions among the affected population.
The aid shipment includes around 200 trauma kits containing emergency medical supplies for the injured.
Separately, the Turkish Red Crescent has sent four trucks carrying 48 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, including temporary shelter materials, hygiene kits, and first-aid equipment.
The trucks bear the inscription: “Humanitarian aid from the Turkish people to the brotherly people of Iran.”
