Trump: India sharply reduced Russian oil imports
US President Donald Trump said that India has significantly reduced its purchases of Russian oil during a meeting with Republican Party members in Washington.
The American leader emphasised that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unhappy with Washington’s tariffs linked to India’s purchases of Russian oil, Caliber.Az reports, citing a broadcast shared on the White House YouTube channel.
“They have now reduce it substantially from Russia,” Trump noted.
Earlier in January, Reuters reported that Indian authorities are requiring domestic refineries to submit weekly reports on purchases of Russian and US oil, with sources saying imports of Russian crude could fall below one million barrels per day in the coming months.
The Trump administration has previously imposed tariffs on Indian imports, raising them to 50 percent last August over New Delhi’s large-scale purchases of Russian oil.
