India to deploy ballistic missiles on borders with China, Pakistan
The Indian Defence Ministry has approved the procurement of about 120 units of Pralay ballistic missiles for the country's armed forces.
The missiles are planned to be deployed along the borders with Pakistan and China, according to the Indian news agency Ani.
The decision on the acquisition was said to have been made at a high-level meeting of the ministry.
Indian defence sources said the missile is being further developed and its range can be extended significantly if the forces want it.
The equipment also underwent successful testing twice on consecutive days last year on December 21 and December 22.
Pralay is a quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile. The advanced missile has been developed in a way to be able to defeat interceptor missiles. It has the ability to change its path after covering a certain range in midair.
The ballistic missile is powered by a solid propellant rocket motor and other new technologies. Its guidance system includes state-of-the-art navigation and integrated avionics.
