Indian foreign minister announces Kabul embassy reopening
India has announced that it will reopen its embassy in Kabul, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told his Afghan counterpart, Amir Khan Muttaqi, who is visiting India until October 16.
Jaishankar highlighted that Muttaqi’s visit represents an important step in strengthening India-Afghanistan relations, Caliber.Az reports via Indian media.
“As a well-wisher of the Afghan people, India has a deep interest in your development. Today, I reaffirm that our long-standing partnership, which has seen so many Indian projects in Afghanistan stands renewed,” Jaishankar said.
He emphasised India’s recognition of Afghanistan’s attentiveness to its security concerns following the Pahalgam terror attack, reaffirming India’s commitment to the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.
Indian FM also asserted that his country is fully committed to sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Afghanistan.
During his stay, he met Jaishankar on October 10 and is scheduled to visit Agra and the Deoband seminary, as well as engage with members of the Afghan community in India.
This is the first time a Taliban foreign minister has visited India.
It is one of the seismic events in the country’s foreign policy where Delhi is nuancing its position on the Taliban.
