Iran draws red lines in Hormuz with new map, naval warning PHOTO
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz must comply with its newly stated rules, saying vessels that violate them would face being “stopped with force,” according to state media reports on May 4.
The warning comes amid heightened signalling by Tehran over one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.
The IRGC said shipping companies and maritime insurers should take its notice seriously, without detailing the operational scope of enforcement.
In a separate announcement, the IRGC Navy unveiled a new map depicting what it described as an area of control and management over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian state media, the outlined zone extends between a line from Kuh-e Mobarak in Iran to a point south of Fujairah, and another line running from the end of Qeshm Island to Umm Al Quwain.
