Iran, European powers agree to continue nuclear diplomacy

24 September 2025 10:32

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met in New York with the Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France as part of the annual United Nations General Assembly session.

The meeting was also attended by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

During the talks, the ministers reviewed discussions held over the past month aimed at finding diplomatic solutions to Iran’s nuclear program and preventing further escalation of tensions.

Araghchi highlighted Iran’s principled positions and recent steps to demonstrate transparency regarding its nuclear activities. He condemned recent “unlawful” attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities as a dangerous precedent for the non-proliferation regime. Noting Iran’s latest agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to fulfil its safeguards obligations, he called for reciprocal and responsible measures from European countries.

The parties also discussed the recent, “unjustified” moves to reinstate previously annulled UN Security Council sanctions. Araghchi and his counterparts exchanged ideas to continue diplomatic engagement, agreeing that consultations with all concerned parties should move forward.
