Iran has more negotiating power than US, ex-Middle East negotiator claims “Iranians hold more cards than the Americans”
Iranians “hold more cards than the Americans” in negotiations, according to former US State Department Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller, speaking in an interview with CNN.
He said Iran is refusing to accept US demands because it controls the Strait of Hormuz, possesses significant military capabilities, and may also hold highly enriched uranium.
“They are clearly in no hurry to make concessions,” Miller emphasised, suggesting that Iran appeared to be operating on a slower timeline than the US.
“They’ve demonstrated a terrifying capacity to undermine security and stability. All of these things represent cards,” Miller said.
He added that Iran is more likely to continue hostilities and respond to Israeli and US strikes than to make concessions in negotiations with Washington.
