Iran, Russia set to sign strategic partnership treaty
Iran and the Russian Federation are set to ink a strategic cooperation treaty during the forthcoming visit of Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian to Russia.
This development was confirmed by Abolfazl Zohrevand, a member of Iran’s parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Zohrevand also dismissed recent claims regarding Iran supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, asserting that these reports are inaccurate. He criticized European governments for attempting to sway public opinion and disrupt the strengthening of Tehran-Moscow relations.
On September 10, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu stated that Russia is finalizing the necessary domestic procedures for the high-profile signing of the new treaty with Iran.
During his meeting with Shoigu in Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations. The top officials also discussed the Iranian president's upcoming participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan. Shoigu conveyed a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirming Moscow’s unchanged stance on regional cooperation with Iran.
The BRICS chairmanship, held by Russia since January 1, 2024, will feature over 200 events throughout the year, culminating in the BRICS summit in Kazan this October. Iran officially joined BRICS on January 1, 2024.
