Iran says US strikes killed 50, wounded more than 500
At least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 wounded in U.S. airstrikes on Iran over recent weeks, Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour said.
“From June 27 to July 18, more than 500 people were injured, and 50 people were killed as a result of airstrikes. Among those killed were five women, two children and teenagers under the age of 18. Among the wounded were 32 women and 18 children and teenagers,” Kermanpour wrote on X.
He said 460 injured people had already been discharged from hospitals, while 37 remained under medical care.
The casualties were reported amid a renewed escalation between Washington and Tehran that began on July 8. U.S. forces launched several waves of strikes on Iranian territory, marking the first such attacks since the signing of a memorandum between the two countries, according to Iranian officials.
The strikes followed an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of a ceasefire with Iran on the same day.
Iran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks against U.S. military facilities and assets across the Middle East, including locations in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
