Iran strengthens naval groupings in international waters
The commander of the Iranian Navy said four naval fleets have been deployed to international waters simultaneously to safeguard the country’s interests.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event on March 6, during which dozens of new weapons and overhauled watercraft joined the Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said four naval fleets are simultaneously taking part in overseas missions in oceans, Tasnim reports.
The commander said the four fleets are safeguarding Iran’s interests and sources in international waters.
“One of the major missions of the Iranian Navy at the international level is monitoring and paying special attention to oceanic environmental issues,” he added.
The commander stated that Iran’s strong presence in international waters would ensure maritime security, support the country’s economic lifeline, guarantee the safety of oil tankers and merchant ships, and allow for the successful implementation of defence diplomacy.
In remarks in November 2023, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the contribution the Iranian Navy can make to other sectors, such as the fulfilment of sea-based economic policies, with its unexplored capacities.
Ayatollah Khamenei also stressed the need to discover the Navy’s new capacities in order to enhance the country’s power and create hope and vitality in society.
