05 August 2025 17:04

Türkiye has unveiled a significant reshuffle in its military leadership following the annual Supreme Military Council meeting, which concluded under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The decisions taken will redefine the Turkish Armed Forces' command structure ahead of the new military term beginning August 30, 2025, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

As part of the reshuffle, 32 generals and admirals have been promoted to the next rank, while 61 colonels have been elevated to the ranks of general or admiral.

In key appointments, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, previously serving as Land Forces Commander, has been named the new Chief of the General Staff.

General Metin Tokel, formerly the 1st Army Commander, will take over as the new head of the Land Forces.

The overall number of generals and admirals in the Turkish Armed Forces will rise from 316 to 332.

Additionally, the terms of office for 29 generals have been extended by one year, while 478 colonels have had their service terms extended by two years.
