Iranian president to put national interests first if he meets Trump

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will act in accordance with the country’s national interests regarding a possible meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali has said.

Speaking at a press conference, he made clear that this position has been consistently maintained by Iranian officials, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Our president and his delegation are very wise and will act in accordance with Iran’s national interests. Trump claims that Iran is allegedly in a weak position and is ‘begging’ for talks with the US. In reality, our official position is regularly conveyed by Iranian officials,” he noted.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the United States was ready to hold talks with the Iranian delegation on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, although no meeting has yet been scheduled.
