Iraq condemns Israel’s ratification of death penalty law for terrorists
Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the approval by the Israeli Knesset of a law imposing the death penalty on those accused of terrorism, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reports.
In a statement, the ministry said it “expresses its strongest condemnation of the approval by the so-called (Zionist Knesset) of a law to execute Palestinian prisoners in occupation prisons,” describing the move as a “serious violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the Geneva Conventions, and a dangerous escalation,” reaffirming its “categorical rejection of this arbitrary measure.”
The ministry also condemned ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, including ground operations, describing them as “a blatant violation of international law and a direct threat to regional security and stability.”
The ministry highlighted that current military operations endanger UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) amid escalating hostilities in areas where they are deployed.
Iraq’s Foreign Ministry called again on the international community to uphold international law, protect civilians and international missions, and take measures to de-escalate tensions and maintain regional security and stability.
