Iraq seizes Captagon shipment delivered by balloon

Iraqi security forces have intercepted an attempted drug smuggling operation involving a balloon in the Al-Muthanna desert, seizing 21 kilograms of Captagon tablets that were being transported from Syria into Iraq, according to a source cited by Shafaq News.

The confiscated narcotics have been secured in a protected storage facility, while authorities have opened an investigation aimed at identifying and dismantling the networks responsible for the operation.

The incident follows a larger anti-smuggling effort earlier in the week, when Iraqi border guards confiscated 154 kilograms of drugs, including approximately 893,000 tablets, after thwarting aerial trafficking attempts along the western border in Anbar province.
