Iraqi Kurdistan Region officials receive invitations to COP29 PHOTO

During his visit to Erbil, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iraq Nasir Mammadov delivered invitations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

The diplomat shared the update on his social media page on X, as per Caliber.Az.

"Today, during a visit to Erbil, I handed over the invitation letter to COP29 addressed to the head of the region, Nechirvan Barzani; the head of the administration of the head of the region, Fauzi Hariri; and the letter addressed to the Prime Minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan Government, Masrour Barzani, to the head of the region's foreign relations department, Safin Dizai," Mammadov stated.

The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP29) is scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024.

The conference will encompass several key events, including the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29), the 19th meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 19), and the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 6). These sessions will focus on completing the first enhanced transparency framework and establishing the new collective quantified goal on finance, among other issues. Additionally, the 61st sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 61) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 61) will be held.

During his visit to Erbil, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iraq also stopped by the Consulate General of Türkiye. He expressed his sincere gratitude to Consul General Erman Topçu for his warm hospitality.

"Within the framework of a visit to the city of Erbil, I visited the Consulate General of brotherly Türkiye. Once again, I express my deep gratitude to my brother, Consul General Erman Topçu for his sincere hospitality," the envoy wrote.
