UN chief welcomes upcoming trilateral meeting between Armenian, Azerbaijani, US leaders
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the upcoming trilateral summit between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and US President Donald Trump, which is scheduled to take place on August 8 in Washington, DC.
The statement was delivered by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Haq stated that the UN has always supported and encouraged all progress towards full normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Haq emphasized the importance of recent diplomatic advances, noting, "In particular, the steps taken in March towards agreeing on a draft peace treaty between the two countries were important in this regard."
He added that Secretary-General Guterres “positively views and welcomes tomorrow's meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan with President Donald Trump.”
