IRGC says four vessels detained in Strait of Hormuz, warns of mined routes
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had detained four vessels in the Strait of Hormuz for allegedly violating passage rules, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported.
The IRGC said the vessels were intercepted using missiles and drones, Caliber.Az reports.
The organisation also claimed that two oil tankers were destroyed and caught fire after attempting to pass through what it described as a mined section of the strait.
“Two oil tankers, having been deceived by U.S. intelligence services while attempting to pass through the mined route in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, were blown up and caught fire,” the IRGC said.
The IRGC urged vessel owners not to be misled by what it called “deception of unfounded support” from the United States and to follow warnings and official announcements issued by its naval forces.
The organisation said the Strait of Hormuz was completely closed and warned that, until what it called the American campaign ends, no chemical fertilisers, oil or gas could be exported from the region.
“In order to protect capital and, more importantly, lives, ships must not be deceived into entering the mined route,” the IRGC added.
