Israel: Ceasefire agreement with Hamas came into effect at 12:00
Israel’s military said its ceasefire with Hamas came into effect at 12:00 local time on October 10, with troops moving to new positions in preparation for the suspension of hostilities and the return of hostages.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said on Telegram that units in the Southern Command are already deployed along updated lines and will continue operations to neutralise any immediate threats.
A formal signing ceremony for the Gaza ceasefire agreement will take place on Monday, October 13, alongside the official deal for the release of hostages.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to attend, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed on Rai 3, adding that the invitation followed talks with Egypt’s foreign minister.
US President Donald Trump is also expected in Israel for the ceremony. According to Channel 12, he will arrive at Ben Gurion Airport shortly after 9 a.m. local time before addressing the Knesset in Jerusalem.
Israel’s cabinet ratified the ceasefire with Hamas on October 10, setting the stage to halt hostilities in Gaza and begin the exchange of hostages and prisoners under Trump’s peace initiative.
