Israel commends Japan for firm stance against Iran’s nuclear program
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has expressed gratitude to Japan for its consistent position that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, following a telephone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi.
Sa’ar shared details of the discussion on his social media platform X, outlining the main points raised during the call and Israel’s position on regional security developments.
“Spoke with Japanese FM and discussed recent developments,” Sa’ar wrote. “We appreciate Japan’s principled and consistent position that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons.”
He further stated that cooperation with the United States had helped mitigate what he described as an imminent threat.
“I said that our joint action with the U.S. pushed back an immediate, existential danger of the extremist Iranian nuclear weapons,” he said, adding that Israel remains firmly opposed to Iran obtaining nuclear capabilities.
“Israel is determined that the Iranian regime never be allowed to obtain the world’s most dangerous weapon,” Sa’ar said.
The Israeli foreign minister also addressed developments in Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of escalating tensions in the region.
“Regarding Lebanon, I said that Hezbollah is the one breaching Lebanon’s sovereignty and attacking Israel and its citizens. Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy and a mutual threat to both Israel and Lebanon, must be disarmed,” he stated.
Sa’ar additionally highlighted the importance of bilateral relations with Japan and confirmed ongoing diplomatic coordination, including personnel changes within Israel’s diplomatic mission in Tokyo.
“I also spoke about the importance we attach to our bilateral relations and the appointment of our new ambassador to Tokyo,” he said.
