Israel strikes Hezbollah, Hamas infrastructure across Lebanon
The Israel Defence Forces said that they conducted precision strikes against ground and underground terrorist infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah and Hamas in multiple areas of Lebanon on January 5.
According to the IDF, the operation targeted weapons depots and military facilities, both above ground and beneath the surface, which Hezbollah had been using to prepare attacks against Israeli soldiers and the State of Israel, as well as to rebuild its military capabilities.
The Israeli military also struck Hamas weapons-production sites in southern Lebanon that were used to expand the group’s military potential and to carry out terrorist attacks against the IDF and Israel.
The IDF said the targeted infrastructure was located in civilian areas, describing this as further evidence of what it called the cynical use of the Lebanese civilian population by terrorist organisations as “human shields.”
Before the strikes were carried out, the military said it took steps to reduce the risk to civilians, including issuing advance warnings to residents of the affected areas.
The IDF added that the activities carried out by terrorist organisations at these locations violate the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon and pose a threat to the security of the State of Israel.
The Israel Defence Forces emphasised that they will continue to operate to eliminate any threats to the country’s security.
