Israeli army detects arms cache in southern Syria

22 November 2025 16:28

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that paratrooper brigade troops identified weapons during ground operations in southern Syria.

The weapons were discovered during a sweep of the area, noting that all items found were subsequently destroyed, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) press service.

“The troops of the 55th Reserve Brigade were called up again for reserve duty in recent months and are currently operating defensively in southern Syria under the command of the 210th Division. The troops are carrying out proactive defensive missions in order to maintain the security of Israeli civilians, and of the residents of the Golan Heights in particular,” the statement read.

As part of the activity, the troops had concluded an operation to locate and scan the area, during which they found weapons, including rocket parts and RPG missile components, all of which were dismantled, according to the statement

Since late 2024, after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the IDF has deployed troops into southern Syria, operating inside a buffer zone near the Golan Heights under the 210th Division.

These missions are officially defensive in nature: the IDF says they aim to dismantle weapons caches, prevent smuggling, and stop hostile forces from entrenching near Israel’s border.

In recent raids, Israeli troops have seized large quantities of arms — including rockets, anti-tank missiles (some of Russian origin), RPGs, Kalashnikovs, and other military hardware — which, according to the IDF, posed a potential threat to Israel.
