Israeli army expands counterterrorism operation in north of West Bank
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have expanded their ongoing counterterrorism operation in the northern West Bank, now in its 12th day, with troops entering the town of Tamun.
Members of the Bislamach Brigade — the IDF's School for Infantry Corps Professions and Squad Commanders in peacetime — conducted operations overnight and have reportedly discovered several weapons, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
Last week, a drone strike in Tamun targeted and killed 10 Palestinian terror operatives.
The IDF's operation, dubbed Operation Iron Wall, initially concentrated on the city and refugee camp of Jenin but expanded to Tulkarem last week and has now reached Tamun.
Israel has recently intensified its counterterrorism operations in the West Bank, focusing on dismantling militant infrastructures and preventing attacks against Israeli civilians.
In January 2025, the IDF conducted a series of counterterrorism operations in the West Bank. On January 26, the IDF launched an airstrike against a bomb-making laboratory in Jenin, targeting a facility used for manufacturing explosive devices. The operation was part of the ongoing "Operation Iron Wall," aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructures in the northern West Bank.
Subsequently, on January 29, the IDF, Shin Bet, and Border Police carried out joint operations in the Jenin refugee camp, uncovering weapons and engaging in confrontations with terrorists. One terrorist was killed during the operation.
