Israeli drone strike kills two, injures two in Hezbollah stronghold in Lebanon

An Israeli drone strike on a Hezbollah facility in the village of A-Shara, located in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, killed two people and injured two others.

Hezbollah spokesperson condemned the attack as "a flagrant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty," Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media. 

In a statement released at 23:54, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack, claiming that it targeted Hezbollah operatives after identifying them at a site involved in the production and storage of strategic weapons in the Bekaa Valley, which belongs to the militant group. 

Meanwhile, the IDF spokesperson indicated that in the past few hours, Israel had targeted multiple military sites in southern Syria, including command centres and numerous weapons depots. The statement stressed that the presence of military forces in southern Syria posed a direct threat to Israeli citizens. 

"The IDF will continue to take action to eliminate any threat to the State of Israel's citizens," the message added.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed the strikes on southern Syria following reports of explosions in several areas south of Damascus. Gallant warned that Israel would not allow southern Syria to become another southern Lebanon.

In recent days, several Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have called for the demilitarisation of southern Syria, warning that Israel would not tolerate any further advance of Syrian forces towards the south of Damascus.

"We will not jeopardise the safety of our citizens. Any attempt by Syrian regime forces or terrorist organisations to establish a foothold in the security zone in southern Syria will be met with fire," Gallant stated.
