CSTO advances program to bolster Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan
The Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) is moving forward with preparations to supply weapons and military equipment to Tajikistan’s border troops as part of an interstate program designed to strengthen the country’s border with Afghanistan.
CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov announced the plans in an interview with the publication "Allies. CSTO". According to him, the organisation is currently supporting the first phase of the program, which involves clarifying and coordinating among CSTO member states the lists of weapons, military hardware, and technical border protection systems to be delivered to Tajikistan.
“Suppliers are being identified, and contracts are being coordinated,” Masadykov said, noting that the CSTO is facilitating agreements on the specific equipment to be provided.
He stressed that the implementation of the targeted interstate program to reinforce the Tajik-Afghan border is a key priority for the organisation. The decision to launch the program was approved by CSTO leaders during their meeting in Astana in November 2024.
The CSTO comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia.
