Israeli PM formally joins Board of Peace for Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially joined the Board of Peace, established to oversee post-war governance in the Gaza Strip, the Prime Minister’s Office announced.
Netanyahu signed the accession document in Washington in the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Caliber.Az reports.
“Before meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House, Prime Minister Netanyahu signed the agreement to join the ‘Board of Peace’ in the presence of Secretary Rubio,” the statement read.
The Board of Peace, a US-led international initiative, was launched at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos. It was initially designed to support ceasefire, reconstruction, governance, and stabilisation efforts in the Gaza Strip under Trump’s peace plan. It has since been described as expanding to address broader global conflict issues beyond Gaza.
Under the draft charter, countries are invited by the US president to join the board. Membership terms generally last three years, but providing at least $1 billion in cash contributions during the first year secures a permanent seat.
While the board’s charter emphasises promoting stability, lawful governance, and lasting peace in conflict-affected areas, its operational structure and ties to the United Nations remain vague, drawing scepticism from some traditional UN backers.
The Board’s initial executive leadership features high-profile political figures, with the US president serving as chair and a board made up of selected global leaders and officials. Decisions generally require both a majority vote and the chairman’s approval.
