Italy rejects Russian drone threat report: "Do not add fuel to the fire"

Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has rejected a report by Spanish newspaper El Mundo about a possible Russian drone attack on Italy, Spain or France.

Crosetto said the claims published by the newspaper were unfounded.

“The alarm raised this morning by a Spanish newspaper, which speculates about possible attacks by Russian ships and drones against Italy, Spain and France, helps no one and has no factual basis,” he wrote on X.

He added that Europe was already living through difficult and “tense” times and said there was no need to “add fuel to the fire”.

El Mundo had reported on an assessment prepared after CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow.

The newspaper said the governments of Spain, France and Italy had been informed that Russia was preparing a possible operation involving drones against one of the three countries.
