Italy's deputy PM calls on EU to ease oil sanctions against Russia
15 March 2026 09:15
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has called on the European Union (EU) to ease oil sanctions against Russia, as reported by European media.
Salvini suggested that Brussels follow the example of the United States and reduce pressure on energy prices by softening restrictions against Moscow.
According to him, this would be a pragmatic choice.
"It's not about being pro-Putin or anti-Putin. Trump eased the sanctions. In my opinion, he did well. The United States is making huge profits, Russia is making huge profits, China is getting oil from Iran anyway, and we are the ones paying the consequences."
