Japan cuts car exports to Russia to all-time low
Japan reduced exports of passenger cars to Russia by 45 per cent compared to the same month last year in November 2023.
In addition, exports of trucks and buses to Russia decreased by 99.9 per cent in November, Gazeta.Ru reports, citing the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
On August 9, a ban on the export of cars with engine capacity of more than 1.9 litres and hybrid cars to Russia came into force in Japan. The decision on restrictions was taken on July 28 as part of the next package of anti-Russian sanctions. Both new cars and used cars, as well as truck tyres, car seats, car locks and so on, have fallen under the restrictions. At the same time, deliveries of new cars to Russia from Japan were stopped back in 2022.
Dealers expect that cars from Japan in Russia will continue to rise in price after the import ban. At the same time, Chinese cars will take over the banned Japanese cars on the Russian market.
