Kremlin: Europe appears to favour escalation over peace in Ukraine
European countries appear to support a continued escalation of military actions in Ukraine rather than a transition toward peace, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
Speaking at a briefing on July 15, Peskov stated that while both Washington and European capitals claim to support dialogue, their public statements suggest otherwise, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
“This dialogue is supposedly desired in Washington and, allegedly, in Europe as well. However, judging by the statements, Europe would rather see an escalation of hostilities than a move toward a peaceful resolution — but Kyiv remains silent,” Peskov said.
The remarks come as a new arms agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump will see NATO allies purchase American-made weapons — including Patriot air defence systems, missiles, and ammunition — to bolster Ukraine's defence against Russian attacks.
Most of the weaponry is expected to be shipped to Ukraine almost immediately, as it is either drawn from existing stockpiles or newly manufactured and ready for deployment.
President Trump, who announced the deal from the Oval Office alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, highlighted the economic benefits for the United States, though specific details about the implementation remain limited.
“It’s a very big deal we’ve made,” Trump said. “You have very wealthy countries buying the best equipment in the world, and we have the best equipment in the world. We make equipment like no other.”
