Ukrainian forces confirm strike on oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed that the Saratov oil refinery in Russia was hit in a strike.

Officials said on the night of 11 September, units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck the Saratov oil refinery in Saratov, after which fires erupted in the area, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“The extent of the damage is being clarified,” General Staff noted in a statement.

“The Saratov oil refinery has a processing capacity of around 7 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces petrol, diesel fuel and other petroleum products. The facility is involved in supplying the Russian Armed Forces with fuel and lubricants,” the statement added.

On the night of 11 September, ASTRA, citing eyewitnesses, reported that the Saratov oil refinery was on fire.

Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin later said that the UAV attack had caused “damage to civilian infrastructure in Saratov”.

He subsequently confirmed an attack on an Ozon warehouse but did not specifically mention an attack on the Saratov oil refinery.
