Japan donates $20 million in power equipment to support Ukraine
Japan has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure by donating three high-capacity autotransformers valued at more than $20 million, Ukrainian energy ministry said.
The equipment was provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is intended to replace critical power infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes on substations operated by Ukrenergo, Caliber.Az reports per the ministry.
According to officials, the autotransformers are considered essential for stabilizing Ukraine’s electricity transmission system, particularly as the country continues to repair and reinforce facilities targeted during the war.
The assistance was delivered under the Emergency Restoration and Reconstruction Project, launched in 2022 in partnership with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, and JICA.
Ukrainian authorities expressed gratitude to Japan for what they described as consistent and substantial support for the country’s energy sector, emphasising the importance of international partnerships in maintaining critical infrastructure during ongoing hostilities.
