Japanese airlines consider fuel surcharge on domestic flights
05 April 2026 14:10
Japanese airlines are considering introducing a fuel surcharge on domestic routes as tensions in the Middle East disrupt energy markets, according to foreign media.
Skymark and Japan Airlines Corporation are specifically weighing the introduction of such a surcharge starting from spring 2027.
Fuel surcharges are typically applied to international flights and fluctuate depending on fuel prices. Japan relies on the Middle East for 94% of its oil imports, with all shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping has been largely disrupted due to the conflict.
