Japans' Nojima to acquire Hitachi home appliances unit in $690 million deal
Japanese electronics retailer Nojima has agreed to acquire Hitachi’s home appliance manufacturing business in a deal worth 110 billion yen (approximately $690.6 million), marking a significant restructuring in Japan’s consumer electronics sector, according to the Yomiuri newspaper.
Under the agreement, the Hitachi brand will be retained, with products continuing to be sold through Nojima’s retail network as well as other distributors, preserving one of Japan’s most recognisable household appliance names in the global market.
The acquisition forms part of Nojima’s broader strategy to build its own home appliance lineup and expand its manufacturing footprint beyond retail. For Hitachi, the sale aligns with its ongoing shift away from consumer electronics toward higher-margin sectors, particularly IT services and energy infrastructure.
As part of the restructuring, Hitachi Global Life Solutions will spin off its home appliance manufacturing operations into a separate entity. Nojima is expected to acquire an 80.1% stake in the new company in fiscal year 2026, giving it majority control over production and strategic direction.
The company is reportedly planning to expand its influence over overseas home appliance sales divisions that were previously transferred to Turkish appliance manufacturer Arçelik, indicating continued adjustments to its international supply and distribution network.
