Karapetyan: “Strong Armenia” to announce next steps after final vote count
The “Strong Armenia” bloc led by businessman Samvel Karapetyan says it will announce its next steps after final results confirm whether the “Prosperous Armenia” party has cleared the parliamentary threshold in the country’s recent election.
Narék Karapetyan, a member of the bloc’s political council and head of its electoral list, said ongoing vote verification will determine whether the party of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan secures the 4% threshold needed to enter parliament, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
He said the outcome would shape the balance of opposition influence in the legislature, particularly on key appointments including the Prosecutor General and other senior officials.
“We are awaiting the final results for Prosperous Armenia; after that we will issue a statement,” he said, adding that the opposition’s ability to counter government decisions depends on its parliamentary strength.
Karapetyan also outlined two possible paths for political change in Armenia: elections or constitutionally framed street mobilisation, arguing that parliamentary realignments could still alter the governing majority during the current term.
He suggested that a shift by eight deputies from the ruling “Civil Contract” party could undermine the position of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, though he acknowledged such a scenario would be difficult in the immediate post-election period.
According to preliminary results from Armenia’s Central Election Commission, the ruling Civil Contract, the “Strong Armenia” bloc, and the “Armenia” bloc of former president Robert Kocharyan have all passed into parliament.
The “Prosperous Armenia” party of Gagik Tsarukyan, however, has reportedly fallen below the 4% threshold following adjustments to preliminary vote counts, putting its parliamentary representation in doubt.
