Kim Jong Un orders North Korea to build two warships annually for five years
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has instructed the country to build two new warships of the same class or higher each year over the next five years, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA),
“In the new five-year plan period, we should correctly implement all the plans for building up our naval capability; we should build every year two surface ships,” he said during a ceremony commissioning the new multi-purpose destroyer, Choe Hyon, into the navy.
Kim also stressed the need to advance all plans to strengthen the navy’s combat capabilities, including the construction of escort vessels and special-purpose ships, as well as the development and production of underwater weapons systems.
He further announced that the plenary meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea had approved plans to build new naval bases for the North Korean fleet.
