Kim Jong Un: Pyongyang’s support for Moscow is forever guaranteed

30 November 2024 15:50

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that Pyongyang will always stand by Moscow during a meeting with Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, who was visiting North Korea.

The talks focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia, particularly in the fields of defence, sovereignty protection, and securing the interests of both nations, Caliber.Az reports via Korean media.

Kim Jong Un condemned the United States and the West, accusing them of directly intervening in the conflict by using Ukrainian forces to launch long-range strikes on Russian territory. He called this "direct military interference."

Kim Jong Un also criticized the US "anti-Russian measures" for prolonging the conflict in Ukraine and threatening global peace. He emphasized that such actions should be condemned by the international community and reassured Russia that the North Korean government, military, and people would continue to support Russia's policies unconditionally.

"Comrade Kim Jong Un sent warm regards to esteemed President Vladimir Putin, the government, military, and people of Russia, reaffirming that Pyongyang will always stand with Moscow," media reported.

Andrei Belousov arrived in North Korea on November 29 for an official visit. During his meeting with Kim Jong Un, the Russian defence minister highlighted the ratification of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and North Korea, emphasizing that it reflects both countries' commitment to developing their alliance. "We are grateful for your unwavering commitment to deepening ties with Russia," Belousov stated during the discussions.

Belousov also reminded Kim Jong Un of the long history of "battle-brotherhood" between their two nations, which spans nearly 80 years. He noted that their cooperation began with the liberation of Korea in 1945 and continued during the Korean War (1950-1953).

"Next year, Russia and North Korea will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the liberation of Korea from Japanese occupation," Belousov added. Russia is also awaiting a positive response to its invitation for North Korean troops to participate in Moscow's military parade on Red Square.

Earlier in November, Russia and North Korea ratified a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, which includes mutual support in the event of an armed attack on either country. The agreement also specifies that neither country will enter into agreements with other states that could undermine the sovereignty or interests of the other.
